Spannabis - the best expo. The Champions Cup - a legendary field of competitors, year after year. In order to win one of the coveted trophies, and unique lids from Grassroots that the winners alone get, you have to bring your best. And not just your best, but the best.
House of the Great Gardener has won a lot of awards, the trophy case is bursting at the seams, but the one that has always eluded us is Spannabis. We’ve been there and put in hash every year for the past six years and we’ve never gotten to hear our names called and take the stage in triumph.
Would 2019 be our year? Spannabis was, as usual, an amazing time. Getting to see and smoke with old friends, and to make new ones, at this incredible event is always the highlight of the year. Going from booth to booth, puffing world class herb and hash and checking out all the new genetics was so much fun that we almost forgot there was a competition.
We got reminded in a hurry. There’s a Cannabis Champions Cup tradition that if you might be a winner one of the organizers comes to your booth the day of the awards and suggests that you be sure to attend the ceremony. He’d never visited ours. But this year, we got the nod. What a feeling! The excitement was palpable. We felt confident that we’d be on the stage that night. But which entry won?
We’d entered twice - one piece of rosin pressed from René dry sift, and one piece of static cleaned Barbara Bud dry sift. Both hashes had been cold cured for four years and we had high hopes for both.
The event began and we reached the solventless hash category. And then it happened - the MC called out “House of the Great Gardener” and we practically ran to the stage to accept the third place award. In all the excitement we didn’t even know which piece was the winner!
As it turns out, that didn’t matter. Just as we left the stage and got back to our seats, we heard it again: “House of the Great Gardener”. Both pieces won! It turns out that the René was in third place and the Barbara Bud won second. What an epic end to another amazing Spannabis. And now that we’ve won at the Champions Cup the goal for 2020 is to take first place! See you there!
